Feature Friday With Sharon from Moore Than Bags

1. What is the name of your Etsy shop and why did you choose that name?  

The name of my Etsy shop is MooreThanBags, a play on my last name and the fact that initially all I made was crocheted handbags.

2. How long have you been on Etsy?  

I have had my Etsy shop for a couple of years but only started listing items about three months ago.

3. What type of items do you sell on Etsy? 

  I offer goat milk soap and crocheted gifts and accessories.

4. How long have you been crafting? 

  I have been crafting for twenty years.

5. Who or What inspires you? 

  I take my inspiration for many of my creations from the beauty of nature. I live in the country surrounded by God's natural beauty.

6. What is your favorite item in your shop and why?  

The favorite item in my store is my coconut crème pie goat milk soap. It looks and smells like the real thing and coconut pie is my personal favorite.

8. How do you describe your artistic style? 

Artistically I am drawn to the understated and more subtle themes than to the flashy. My crochet is definitely not your granny's crochet and I try to keep it very current to match current trends. 

9. Do you have set days or times to work on your craft?  

With my Type A personality I work on my craft daily. I am a morning person so that is when I am creatively at my best. I tend to work on soap early in the day and settle in with my crochet projects late evening until bedtime.

10. What words of advice would you give others or to someone just starting out? 

  It is important to look for a mentor from the Etsy community and there are plenty of people willing to teach you the ins and outs of Etsy. Mona Rae of MROriginals was especially helpful to me.

11. Tell a bit of personal info about yourself.  

I have worn many "hats" in my lifetime from hairdresser to Registered Nurse. I retired from Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma where I honed my writing skills writing health care grants. I have also owned five small businesses. Currently I am married to a wonderful man that helps me with my soap business but draws the line at crochet. I have three adult children and six lovely grandchildren.
